Designing Your Own Sessions continued
When designing a gamma, beta, alpha, theta or combination, you should have a predetermined core length so your ending section can guide the listener back to their normal waking state. But for a delta or sleep session, where there is no need for returning to a low beta state, your core section can gradually fade out with no need for an ending section.
What matters most when constructing the end section is how you want the person to be left feeling. Ending a session in high beta before physically working out can be ideal. But if the listener is experiencing a relaxation session before driving the freeway, it would not be nice to end the session in theta or alpha. Ending the session in low beta would be much more safer.
For whatever reason you have for designing a session, be it for energy, creativity, relaxation or just plain fun, view the design as if you were writing a song or a story. How do you want them to feel as they listen to the session? How do you want them to feel afterwards?
As you become familiar with the different ways of constructing sessions, you will acquire little secrets that can be used in designing most any session. All you need is patience, the opportunity to experiment and confidence in your ability to create. And there are plenty of avenues for learning more. Just consult your light and sound owners manual and the Suggested Reading section.
